About Me

Welcome to my knifemaking web site, my name is Dan Dick and I thank you for taking the time to look at my web site.  Ever since I can remember, back to when I was a young child, I've had an affection for sharp pointy things, along with fire and things that go boom, but we won't get into the last two.  I have for the most part of my life always carried a knife and have found them to be a most useful tool.  They are the oldest tool known to mankind.  Creating a knife by hand can be very frustrating while very satisfying at the same time.  There's nothing that comes close to describing the feeling you get when you have a completed functional knife that you just made with your own two hands.

I'm a relatively new knifemaker whose goal it is to make useful and functional knives while making them nice looking knives.  But make no mistake; I make my knives to be used.  I've been making knives for sale to the public since 2006, having made and sold a few prior to this to friends/coworkers.  I make all of my own knives and do all of the work on them myself, including the heat treating and leather sheaths.  For now I'm making fixed blade knives only.  As time goes on and my skill level increases I will make folders, but they're a little ways down the road yet.  My skill level is increasing with every knife I make.  Currently I have eleven different models of fixed blade knives I offer but I plan on expanding my line up as time goes on.

I'm currently doing stock removal for my knives and use D2 exclusively.  I feel it is a very good steel of choice for the knives I currently produce and their intended purposes.  I have just begun to play again with fire and have discovered the wonderful art of forging.  I have lots left to learn on the forging aspect, but I'm practicing in it via a homemade propane forge.  My eventual goal is to make some forged knives as well as some pattern welded steel, commonly referred to as "damascus steel".

I have lots of plans, goals and dreams for my future knives.  You can check back from time to time to see how I advance and what's available for purchase.  I warrant all of my knives for as long as I'm able to make knives, hopefully another 20+ years.  I cannot warrant a knife if it is misused/abused.  Knives are meant to cut soft materials such as meat, hide, sinew, cartilage, paper, cardboard, string, cheese and vegetables just to name a few things.  If you want to cut bone, get a saw.  If you want to unscrew a screw, get a screwdriver.  If you want to pry open a window, get a pry bar.  You get the meaning by now I think.  If one of my knives should ever fail you due to my fault, contact me immediately for a remedy as I want all of my customers to have 100% satisfaction with their knife.  All of my knives will come with either a leather or kydex sheath, depending on the model.  Due to the nature of the beast I cannot warrant a sheath, unless it's my fault something happened to it, then I will warrant it.

If you like a knife on the “Knives Available” page please contact me about it.  If you see one on the "Knife Gallery" page and want one similar to it, please contact me.  You can use the "Contact Me" button at the top left of this page.

I hold a great full time job (marshmallow farmer) and make knives in my spare time as a hobby.  Currently spare time is at a premium for me so please allow me up to 12 months to complete a knife should you order one of my eleven different models, however I always try to have several on hand to select from.  Having become a "grandpa" takes even more time away from the shop, but family is first!  I currently do not take specialized or customized orders, other than my regular models as noted earlier.  My contact information is as follows:
